The laser leaves the inorganic substrate untouched because the light reflects the laser without causing any strain or damage. These materials can include anything from paint to rubber to algae because only these contaminants absorb the light. The laser operator will clean the top layer by hitting it with short pulses of light that target only organic materials. The radiation an industrial cleaning laser emits can be modified to match the surface material at hand. How does laser stripping protect the underlying surface (the substrate)? If you are conserving historic metal components, choosing a cleaning procedure with no potential chemical reactions, no abrasion, and no moisture or contamination is always the safest choice for the final product. Laser cleaning, however, does not interact with the underlying inorganic surface even with direct exposure. While chemicals can be carefully selected for limited reactions and minimal surface damage, that is dependent on knowing exactly what materials make up the components the wrong chemicals can etch away fine details and weaken the material before you have a chance to stop the procedure. Depending on the exact nature of your project, you might be restoring a one-of-a-kind setting, tool, or part. You can drastically reduce the risk of restoration error. It also reduces noise pollution, so other aspects of restoration can continue in the area. Instead of restoring surfaces with grinding and sanding, which can be dangerous for the person operating the tools and can even lead to a project slow-down if the dust and debris are too much of a health hazard, laser cleaning works without contaminating the air. The binding agents and construction materials approved for widespread usage even thirty years ago are now considered toxic, especially if small bits of the contaminants are released into the air. Industrial and commercial restoration projects can be dangerous. Laser cleaning reduces hazardous conditions for workers or visitors in the area. However, our cleanLASER CL-1000’s beam can strip any surface the light touches, even if it is beyond the reach of traditional cleaning tools. Every artifact from metal art to tools and hardware have a lot of grooves and sharp corners that can collect the debris, lubricant and organic build-up from years of exposure, and it always accumulates in the hardest to reach places. The process will not leave any portion of the part uncleaned. Using a laser, on the other hand, will leave you with a perfectly clean surface with only the contaminants or unwanted layers removed. It also creates high amounts of chemical waste. It also leaves behind solvent and chemical residue that can be hazardous to any fragile materials and goods and future users in proximity to the surface. Chemical cleaning can be just as risky because of any potential reactions. Most stripping procedures involve using friction and rough surfaces to scratch off residue, and even the most finely controlled devices lead to some risk of damage. Whether you need corrosive substances removed from tiny crevices in tools or your need layers of material stripped from a surface without damaging the underlying materials, traditional methods do not get the job done. Laser cleaning protects the surface of your parts and materials. What are the advantages of using laser cleaning for your restoration projects? The platform, which runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS), brings in and analyzes more than 15 terabytes (TB) of data to give staff a 360-degree view of how each customer interacts with the company for more personalized recommendations and more accurate forecasting. HelloFresh is transforming analytics with a modern data warehouse on Cloudera. It would take hours to figure out how many boxes were shipped, and as we hired more analysts and data scientists, it became quite difficult even to maintain that level of performance.” Solution “Our legacy SQL database was hard to scale and difficult to bring in new data and users,” said Kai von Grambusch. However, as its subscriber base grew, HelloFresh staff needed a new data warehouse that could support more data and more business users, and that could more accurately predict customer behavior. What recipes, ingredients, and meals might each household want to try, and when would they most likely buy those meals? In any subscription model business, customer retention is vital as profitability can quickly erode with rapid customer turnover and high customer acquisition costs.įor HelloFresh, data provides the key to not only understanding customer likes and dislikes but also predicting their preferences and needs. It’s not surprising given its disrupter status that HelloFresh executives seek fresh insights when it comes to customer needs. “A huge data-driven technology platform puts us in a prime position for disrupting the food supply chain and fundamentally changing the way consumers shop for food,” said Kai von Grambusch, director of Data & Analytics at HelloFresh. The company packages over 10 million meals a month for more than one and a half million customers worldwide. HelloFresh is the leading global provider of fresh ingredients and recipes that help families enjoy wholesome home-cooked meals with no planning or shopping. In a luciferase reporter assay, MdERF1B mainly activated proMdMYB9 and proMdMYB11, promoting their expression levels. Furthermore, in yeast one-hybrid and electrophoretic mobility shift assays, MdERF1B also bound to the promoters of MdMYB9, MdMYB1, and MdMYB11. MdERF1B interacted with MdMYB9, MdMYB1, and MdMYB11 proteins in yeast two-hybrid, pull-down, and bimolecular fluorescence complementation assays. As a result, the levels of anthocyanins and PAs were significantly increased in the MdERF1B-overexpressing calli. Compared with the control calli, the MdERF1B-overexpressing calli showed increased expression levels of MdACO1, MdERF1, and MdERF3 in the ethylene pathway and MdCHS, MdCHI, MdF3H, MdDFR, MdANS, MdLAR, MdANR, MdMYB9 and MdMYB11 in the flavonoid pathway. ‘Orin’ calli overexpressing MdERF1B were generated and then analyzed by quantitative reverse transcription-PCR. In this study, an ethylene response factor (ERF), MdERF1B, was identified and functionally characterized. Ethylene can enhance reddening of apple ( Malus × domestica), but the regulatory mechanism is poorly understood. Abstractĭietary anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins (PAs) have health benefits for humans, and are associated with decreased risks of coronary heart disease and cancer. The regulator MdERF1B in the apple ( Malus × domestica) ethylene pathway mainly acts on MdMYB9 and MdMYB11 to regulate anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin accumulation. I first met Mike Malone in 1990 while still in high school. If you need any more confirmation of the level of respect and admiration that other musicians have for Mike, look no further: To end off, I asked our 2015 Smordin Law Artist-in-Residence, pianist Adrean Farrugia, for a few words about Mike Malone. The band Mike has assembled to delve into this material is certainly up the the task, featuring a line-up of Canadian jazz veterans who over the years have played with jazz luminaries like Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall, Tony Bennett, Lee Konitz, Elvin Jones and more. Miles’ (and Bill Evans’) compositions have all proven themselves to be worthy standards each responding capably to multiple interpretations and recordings. ‘Kind of Blue’ is regarded as one of the greatest albums (jazz or otherwise) of all-time, and not just because of the quality of the players. Mike’s second performance will take place November 3rd at the Pearl Company with an all-star sextet made up of Michael Stuart and Darcy Hepner on saxophones, Pat Collins on bass, Kevin Dempsey on drums and Adrean Farrugia once again on piano, performing music from Miles Davis’ seminal 1959 album ‘Kind of Blue’. They are all highly skilled and highly sensitive musicians who thrive in setting with plenty of space for close listening and interaction. Beyond the nice connection to last year’s festival (Adrean was the 2015 Artist-in-Residence), I’m excited for this concert because I love hearing all three of these players in small group settings. Mike’s first show at the 2016 festival will be at Artword Artbar on October 30th alongside Adrean Farrugia on piano and Bob Shields on guitar. We’re thrilled to welcome him to this year’s festival as the 2016 Smordin Law Artist-in-Residence! Mike has years of experience teaching as a faculty member for the music program at Mohawk College, so his positive impact on jazz in Hamilton extends far far beyond his own playing. I am still scouring the internet for this photo), but I think at least part of the admiration from his fellow musicians comes from his work as an educator. I can understand why. Mike Malone’s career as a performer stretches back decades (while taking the photo above, Mike told us a story about a photo-shoot for a luggage company ad in Esquire magazine that he did before playing at Carnegie Hall with Lighthouse, that featured them all jumping over a pile of suitcases. And whenever he plays, I can tell that the other musicians are excited to have him there. Mike has since played at every iteration of the Steel City Jazz Festival, most recently as the analogue to Freddie Hubbard in last year’s tribute to the Wayne Shorter album ‘Speak No Evil’. He ended up playing in two groups at the festival that August the first played to a room of about ten people (aka a very special, intimate performance). Am I ever glad that he did! Mike was immediately supportive of the festival when I met him at a Jazz Connection rehearsal the winter of our first year. One of the first people Simon recommended I talk to was Mike Malone. When the planning for the very first Steel City Jazz Festival began in 2012, I was very fortunate to have the help of Jazz Connection Big Band leader Simon Wheeldon in navigating the local jazz scene, to which I was still a new-comer. Of the 12 New Yorkers who have died in Dominican plastic surgeries in the last six years, all but one underwent multiple surgeries at once. Then in July, Alexandra Medina, a 33-year-old from Yonkers, became the second New Yorker and third American to die within a month in a Dominican plastic surgery clinic when she went for a tummy tuck. He had a past history of negligence and was charged for the deaths of two women in 2015 but the charges were dropped for lack of evidence. According to Telemundo, the doctor who operated on him was actually a gynecologist. In June, Manuel Núñez, a New Yorker who had also gone to get liposculpture, died under the knife in a Dominican operating room. However, like Cedeño, not all who go there to get work done return home. In 2018, more than 23,000 plastic surgeries were performed in the Dominican Republic and more than 18,000 of those were on foreigners. It runs even more smoothly for those seeking plastic surgery on the Caribbean island, where procedures are far cheaper: the average cost of liposuction in the US is $5,500, compared to $3,500 in the Dominican Republic. Her friend Tiffany Concha, from the Bronx, would join her for her own procedure. After years of feeling unattractive compared to women who had “gotten done”, Cedeño was ready. One day she saw a friend’s Instagram post after a procedure by surgeon Edgar Contreras, who’s based in the Dominican Republic.
